Boscastle today
Boscastle suffered a devasatating flood in August 2004 and has been rebuilding since. Heavy rain (89mm in 60 minutes) caused a flash flood and raised this river by 2 metres in 1 hour, cars were swept away and 55 people were rescued by helicopters. Many of the aircrew were quite rightly recognised for their skill and bravery in saving so many people. After the flood 35 BBC crew were apprently flown in to Boscastle to cover the reporting.
It is good to see that despite being a very cold and windy day in the winter people are still visting and supporting the local people.

Sea of rocks
Around 400 million years old, this rock formation is in the quiet Ayrmer Cove, a short walk from a small car park at the village of Ringmore. That quiet might be disturbed by groups of path walkers descending from the hills for a beach picnic or the odd "Townie" showing off his speedboat but it is still worth the kilometre walk through the fields.

Burgh Island
Burgh Island, famous for it's art deco hotel, inspiration for Agatha Christie's novel "And then there were none" , popular for kite surfing and scene of the 1965 film "Catch us if you can" starring the Dave Clark Five. .....relive the Sixties with "Bits and Pieces" or "Glad all Over". This small island even has is own book . It has been nominated as an icon of England and you can vote to agree or disagree
When the tide is out you can enjoy the sandy beach or walk to the island, if the tide is in you need to catch the Sea Tractor to get to and from the mainland. This is a popular spot all year round, often invaded by Londoners at the weekend when they come to visit their houses in the country. A tradition to walk across on New Year's day, if the cross wind does not revive you the occaisional snowfall might.

Shoes
This looks like a posed picture but these shoes were washed up with other debris on the beach, not sure anyone would be wanting to wear flip-flops on a cold February morning anyway. The sea seems to claim many shoes, in large volumes; near the Dutch coast recently and famously in the Pacific Ocean in 1990 . It is not usual to find a pair so were the two "thongs" here left by mistake ? The sea can snatch a buckled shoe from your foot, as happened to my daughter as she paddled just up the coast from here.

No image manipulation, a fresh winter's day with clear blue sky. This tree has grown used to the wind blowing in from the sea.

Anemone
There are plenty of shore diving spots along the Coastal Path, step into the sea at Babbacombe and you get to see anemones like this. I learnt to dive here, it was March and the sea temperature was 8oC (46oF), no gloves....very cold. Cuttlefish inhabit these waters, beautiful creatures but under threat. I have never been able to photo them but there are some great shots of them available on the Babbacombe Beach site.

Porthcurno
Just along from Logan Rock is Porthcurno, this golden sand beach is also famous for being the home of the British termination of early submarine telegraph cables, first landed in 1870, part of an early international link stretching to India. There is a museum just up from the beach On the South side of the cove is the Minack Theatre where open air performances take place overlooking the sea.

Logan rock
It is all very interesting to know the history of Logan Rock but the enjoyment is sitting there, taking in the Cornish sunshine (it's not always grey in the UK, despite what Woody Allen says), admiring the beautiful sandy coves (yes, England does have sandy beaches !) and spotting dolphins just off the coast.

Cows
Cows don't just rule the fields in Devon, they rule the roads, the paths and anywhere else they feel like going. Never pick a fight with a cow......

Warren Beach - Devon
Between Noss Mayo and Stoke Beach great rock formations when the tide goes out, probably missed by most of the Sunday strollers that keep to the upper track.
